Fashion for Shorties

by Edie on November 18th, 2007

A common misconception about petite fashion is that they’re just clothes in a smaller size.  That’s not true.  Petite clothes are made with dimensions that fit the petite figure — proportions are different, armholes are raised, pockets are raised and smaller, collars and buttons are scaled down.  Another misconception is that petite clothes are only for thin women.  Again, not true.  Petite refers to height (5′4″ or under) rather than girth, and you can find petite clothes in plus sizes as well — just look for the “P” after the size number.

Myshape.com caters specifically to the petite woman.  I had a hard time choosing which dresses to feature because they have so many great ones.  I finally decided to go with these two in sapphire blue:

petite siren

The above Donna Ricco dress comes in stretch satin and is described as “siren-worthy.”

petite fifties

This Donna Morgan dress comes in taffeta with a removable sash.  Love the retro 50’s look.

While browsing through their selection, I came across sizes as large as XL-P and 16P.

One more tip for petite women:  dressing all in one color gives visual length and will make you appear taller.

Even if you’re not in need of petite sized clothes, visit myshape.com to check out their hilarious Embarrassing Fashion Moments page.  The story from Cindy (approximately the second one down) had me rolling with laughter.
