Finally There’s Hope for the Fashion Impaired
Most women are born with it — that hidden gene that tells her which shoes go with which outfits, which colors match and which don’t, why one dress is cute and another one isn’t. Just as animals display instinctive behaviors in the wild, knowing how to perform certain tasks without ever being told, women know how to shop for clothes.
Sadly, one in every 93,273 women is born with a rare affliction, a missing gene, which leaves them helpless in the face of fashion. It’s known as FSDD, or Fashion Shopping Deficit Disorder. When they come into contact with what most of their species would accept as second nature, like, for instance, a mall or a shoe sale, they quickly become confused, perhaps even disoriented, and will usually flee.
FSDD often leads to problems of social isolation. The fashionably impaired woman tends to feel shame associated with her condition and avoids situations that might bring it to others’ attention, such as an all-girl shopping trip. She will always have some excuse for why she can’t go, “No thanks, I have to stay home and, uh…give my cat a bath…” Sound familiar? If so, someone you know may be afflicted with FSDD.
Additionally, the sufferer may attempt to hide her impairment by always wearing the same thing, a self-imposed uniform, if you will. Symptoms include:
- Always wearing the same color or neutral shades.
- Always wearing solids; avoidance of prints.
- Always wearing one type of clothing, no matter what the occasion. Common pieces of clothing for single-item obsession include:
- jeans
- sweatsuits
- capris
Luckily, there’s now a treatment for such severe cases. Thanks to a new intervention therapy, called FashMatch.com, tragedy is now being replaced with hope.
FashMatch.com is an online community where people from all over the world put together virtual outfits and match tops, with pants, with shoes, with handbags, etc. When you visit, you can browse through the the outfits and click on the ones you like.
