Ohmygosh, Cute!
I don’t know why, but I love polka-dots. They just make me happy. This absolutely adorable Donna Morgan dress is available at Barrie Pace. The dress is taffeta, and the polka-dots are flocked velvet. But my favorite thing about the description: bra-friendly (always a plus).
Look for dresses in jewel tones this season, like this one in sapphire blue.

I’ve always wanted to try a patterned formal dress. Polka dots are such a great idea! They are cute and trendy. Would you recommend any other prints, i.e. floral or stripes?

Hi, Rock Star. I haven’t seen a whole lot of traditional stripes in runway collections for this season, although that doesn’t necessarily mean you should rule out a beautiful dress if you come across one in a classic style. As far as florals, the trend is small and wallpaper-like (which sounds odd but looks classy) like the prints on the dresses in this post: http://www.justaformality.com/cocktail-dresses-at-saks/.
